Understanding Shift Differientials at the Froedtert & the Medical College of Wisconsin health network
At Froedtert & MCW, we recognize the dedication and flexibility of our team members who work non-traditional hours. To reflect this commitment, eligible team members may receive shift differentials based on the timing and nature of their shifts. 
Shift Differential Overview
Shift differentials are additional hourly pay for team members working evening, night, or weekend shifts. Eligibility is determined by when the majority of your shift hours occur:

PM Shift Differential
  • If the majority of your shift falls within the evening (PM) hours, you’ll receive the PM differential for your entire shift.
  • Example: Working 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. qualifies for the PM differential for the full 12-hour shift.
Night Shift Differential
  • If the majority of your shift falls within overnight (Night) hours, you’ll receive the Night differential for your entire shift.
  • Example: Working 7 p.m. – 7 a.m. qualifies for the Night differential for the full 12-hour shift.
No Differential
  • If your shift does not fall predominantly in the PM or Night timeframes, you will not receive a shift differential.
  • Example: Working 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. does not qualify for a shift differential.

Weekend Differential
  • All team members working qualifying weekend hours receive a weekend differential for every hour worked during that timeframe.
  • Weekend Hours: Begin with 3rd shift on Friday (11:00 p.m.) and run through the completion of 3rd shift on Sunday (7:00 a.m. on Monday).

Weekend Program
  • Froedtert & MCW offers a specialized Weekend Program for team members who commit to consistent weekend schedules.
  • Weekend Program staff are assigned to work a department or unit-defined minimum number of hours between 3:00 p.m. Friday and 7:30 a.m. Monday.
  • These employees receive their regular base pay, plus:
    • The Weekend Program incentive
    • Any additional eligible shift and weekend differentials

This program is designed to support work-life balance while ensuring exceptional patient care during weekends.
